Work Beginning on Two Bridges in Pike County
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin work soon on two bridges located in Pike County. One of the bridges carries Ail Branch Road over Blackberry Creek. The second bridge carries Big Blue Springs Road over Blackberry Creek. Both bridges are part of KYTC’s Bridging Kentucky Program.
The Big Blue Springs Road bridge is more than 70 years old, while the Ail Branch Road bridge was built 28 years ago. The Bridging Kentucky program’s replacement projects will bring 75 years of additional life to each bridge, ensuring that they are safe and up-to-date for the next 75 years to come.
These projects are part of a design-build project to replace more than 100 bridges in Eastern Kentucky. To date, the design-build project has completed construction of five bridges in Pike County:
- Caney Highway #1 Bridge over Caney Creek;
- Raccoon Road Bridge over Raccoon Creek;
- North River Road Bridge over Levisa Fork;
- Robinson Creek Road Bridge over Long Fork;
- Right Fork of Brushy Road Bridge over Left Fork Bushy Fork.
