The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently began work on a Jefferson County bridge being replaced through the Bridging Kentucky program. The bridge carries South Watterson Trail over Fern Creek.
The bridge is closed and will remain shut down for 60 days during project construction. Once completed, the replacement project will give an additional 75 years of life to this bridge.
The bridge replacement is part of a multi-project contract awarded to Louisville Paving and Construction. Bundling bridge projects under on contract helps reduce construction time and provides greater value to the state to address more needs with its available funding.
This project is a part of the KYTC’s commitment to improve the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s bridges by rehabilitating, repairing and replacing critical bridge structures throughout the state. Bridging Kentucky is designed to re-open closed structures, ensure structures meet appropriate weight capacities and extend the lifespan of bridges.
