Three New Bridge Projects Starting in Eastern Kentucky

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is starting construction on three additional bridge projects in Eastern Kentucky as part of its Bridging Kentucky Program.

These bridges, located in Lawrence and Letcher counties, are among more than 100 bridges that are part of an innovative design-build contract that was used to expedite bridge replacement projects in Eastern Kentucky. The design-build team is led by Central Bridge Co., LLC J/V Bizzack Construction LLC and HDR Engineering, Inc.

The new projects will replace these bridges with new structures that will last at least 75 years:

  • Little East Fork bridge over the East Fork of Little Sandy River in Lawrence County
  • Henry Ison Hollow bridge over Cowan Creek in Letcher County
  • The Paradise Lane bridge over Kingdom Come Creek in Letcher County

These bridges are among nearly 20 active bridge construction projects across the state with approximately 100 additional projects nearing construction.

Overall, Bridging Kentucky has completed more than 265 bridge projects. The program is a statewide initiative that represents an unprecedented commitment by the Commonwealth to improve the safety and soundness of bridges across Kentucky.
