Transportation Cabinet moves forward nine additional Bridging Kentucky projects
300+ bridge projects awarded for construction through September
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2019) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded contracts for nine new construction projects that are part of its Bridging Kentucky Program. Kentucky has now awarded contracts for more than 300 projects through the Bridging Kentucky program. Meanwhile, more than 80 additional projects will move to the construction phase through the remainder of this year.
To date, more than 90 bridges in the Bridging Kentucky Program have been restored and reopened to traffic since the program was created in mid-2018.
Bridging Kentucky is a statewide program that represents an unprecedented commitment to improve the safety and soundness of bridges throughout the Commonwealth by replacing or rehabilitating more than 1,000 bridges in six years.
“The Bridging Kentucky program continues to address the bridges across Kentucky that we’ve identified with the greatest need,” said Royce Meredith, KYTC’s program manager for Bridging Kentucky. “We are moving quickly to award contracts for these rehabilitation or replacement projects and improve safety and mobility across the Commonwealth.”
Contracts were awarded for the following projects in September; construction schedules have not been determined.
Christian County: Scott and Murphy was awarded a contract to replace the Substation Road bridge over a CSX railroad line.
Greenup County: Hinkle Construction was awarded a contract to replace the KY 503 bridge over Indian Run Creek. The bridge will be closed for up to 45 days during construction, and traffic will be detoured to nearby roads.
Jefferson County: Irvine Construction was awarded a contract to replace the Grade Lane bridge over Northern Ditch.
Knott County: Frederick & May Construction was awarded a contract to replace the Rocklick Branch bridge over the right fork of Beaver Creek.
Leslie County: M&M Construction was awarded a contract to perform a rehabilitation and superstructure strengthening project for the KY 2431 bridge over the middle fork of the Kentucky River. One lane of traffic will be maintained during construction by phasing work.
Lewis County: M&M Construction was awarded a contract to perform a rehabilitation project for the Briery Creek Road bridge over Indian Creek. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained during construction by phasing work.
Mason County: Walker Construction was awarded a contract to replace the Davis Lane bridge over the north fork of Licking River.
Ohio County: Scott and Murphy Construction was awarded a bundled project to replace two bridges on U.S. 62 over branches of Three Lick Fork. The bridges will be closed during construction, and traffic will be detoured to nearby roads.
