The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet completed a bridge project in Owsley County earlier this month through its Bridging Kentucky program.
The newly opened bridge carries Shepherds Lane Road over Meadow Creek, near Owsley County High School in Booneville. The bridge reopened to traffic earlier this month after four months of construction. This replacement project added 75 years of life to this 33-year-old bridge in southeastern Kentucky.
The Shepherds Lane Road bridge is the first bridge in Owsley County to be completed through Bridging Kentucky’s design-build project. The design-build project — part of the larger Bridging Kentucky Program — aims to advance construction of more than 100 bridges located in the Eastern and Southeastern counties of Kentucky. Using this innovative approach to replace bridges located in the region helps to bring additional value to the program.
Since December, more than 50 bridges in Eastern Kentucky have been restored and reopened to traffic.
