Simpson County Bridge Project Moves Toward December Completion
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is moving forward on a bridge project in Simpson County that is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The bridge, carrying Stevenson Road over Sinking Creek, closed Sept. 21 for repairs and is expected to reopen by mid-December. It is being replaced by a new bridge, similar in design. The replacement will provide an extra 75 years of life to this bridge once it is completed and opened to traffic.
This 60-year-old bridge had accumulated enough wear and tear over the years before it underwent construction, it was restricted by weight limits designating that it was no longer safe for larger trucks or emergency vehicles to travel on.
By replacing this bridge, KYTC is providing a newer, safer path—free of any restrictions or weight limits—that all larger trucks and emergency vehicles will soon be able to cross.
The Stevenson Road bridge will be the second bridge project in Simpson County completed through the Bridging Kentucky Program, a statewide initiative to improve the safety and soundness of critical structures. Previous Simpson County projects that have been completed include the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over Mays Branch.
