Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Awards New Contracts for Bridging Kentucky Projects

Bridge program has delivered 121 bridge projects to construction through May

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 12, 2019) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to award new construction contracts for bridges in the Bridging Kentucky Program as scores of projects are under construction across the state.

With the addition of the seven new projects awarded in May, KYTC has now awarded 121 projects through the Bridging Kentucky program, launched in mid-2018. Meanwhile, more than 300 additional projects will move to the construction phase through the remainder of the year.

As the summer construction season continues, more bridge projects are advancing, including more than 20 bridges that have been restored and reopened to traffic.

“As peak construction season gets underway, citizens with active projects in their hometowns will see crews out working,” said Royce Meredith, KYTC’s Program Manager for Bridging Kentucky. “We look forward to making progress this summer, completing more projects and reopening these bridges to safely serve communities across the state.”

Contracts were awarded for the following projects in May; construction schedules have not determined.

Breathitt County: Bush & Burchett was awarded a contract to replace the Little Buckhorn Road bridge over Buckhorn Creek. This bridge is part of a bundled project containing three bridges. One lane of traffic will be maintained during construction by phasing work.
