Construction Set to Begin on Big Twin Creek Road Bridge in Owen County

WORTHVILLE, KY – Work on a long-awaited bridge improvement project is getting underway in northern Kentucky. On Monday, Jan. 31, the bridge on Big Twin Creek Road over Punchen Camp Branch in Owen County will be closed to through traffic for a 60-day period. The closure will allow the contractor to replace the bridge superstructure, which includes beams, the deck and railing. Repairs will be made to the existing abutments.

Originally built in 1984, the current bridge deck is made of timber planks and an asphalt overlay. An inspection report noted some apparent section loss and rusting of beams, along with spalling and cracking on the abutments. The rehabilitation work for this bridge will include patching and sealing the concrete.

Once complete, this restored Owen County bridge will have a design life of 30 years. The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic in April.
