Project Overview
With the Bridging Kentucky Program, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) led a transformational commitment to improve the safety and soundness of bridges across the Commonwealth. KYTC rehabilitated, repaired and replaced critical structures in every region of Kentucky. We reopened closed bridges; removed weight restrictions that prevented use by school buses, emergency vehicles and businesses; and improved access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
Data-Driven Investment
The state’s significant investment will have long-term impacts by ensuring that bridges across Kentucky are safe and sound for travelers. Each bridge restoration added decades of life to existing bridges, and new bridges will last at least 75 years.
Safety First
The bridge improvement program focused on improving the condition of some of Kentucky’s most critical existing bridges, not expanding or widening the transportation system. Additional revenues will be needed to build new roads and bridges, an issue for continuing discussion by policy leaders.
